How does the fire starter actually work?
Well, the porous stone soaks up the oil so that when lit, it burns long and slow giving enough time for your logs to catch and the fire to get well underway.
Where can I get extra oil from?
For New Zealand and Australian orders you can purchase lamp oil form this page or add it to your order on the Fire Starter page.
To get more oil elsewhere, you'll find it in most hardware stores, look for 'odorless lamp oil' in the flammable section. It's cheap and lasts a decent while.
Do I keep the fire starter stone in the fire, or remove it once lit?
Once lit, we recommend removing the stone and placing it to the side before going back into the pot. It is ok to leave the stone in the oil for long periods as long as it's not still hot.
A considered change from the original 500ml bottles of lamp oil to now a 2 litre bottle so that it is more cost-effective for you, while also making each top-up go four times further
We use this lamp oil to fill the Fire Starter vessel where the porous stone sits within. The stone when lit slowly releases the oil letting it burn for approximately 15 minutes, which is plenty of time to get your logs burning.
Please note: We cannot send the lamp oil internationally (outside of New Zealand) due to it being a flammable liquid.
